In The Studio: A Toureg Get-Down

This week, we’re listening to music from sub-Saharan Africa. Tishoumaren or assouf, internationally known as desert blues, is a style of music from the Sahara region of northern and west Africa. Wiki describes the music as a fusion of blues and rock with Tuareg, Malian or North African music. It’s more complex, and less western, than that and it’s also lovely. Check it out: Tinariwen is one of my all-time favorites but you can’t go wrong with any of the folks listed.
